A PARENT’S GUIDE TO SENIOR PORTRAITURE

One of the most important milestones in your child’s life is their graduation from high school. You have but one opportunity to record this important event with high quality senior portraits. I hope this article helps you in choosing a photographer that will provide this degree of excellence.

First, you need to understand that you are under no obligation to have the school’s contract photographer take your senior’s private portraits. Some schools may attempt to pressure their students to use those photographers when in fact, by law, they can not tell you where to purchase your portraits. Even if the school sends your child to their photographer’s studio for yearbook photos, you are not obligated to purchase additional photo sessions or prints from that photographer.

Start planning your senior’s portraits as soon as they enter their senior year. As each month slips by you will find their graduation requirements and your obligations to be using up more and more of your time. During the last three months before graduation, our studio, along with most other area photographers, begin to run out of available slots for scheduling portrait sessions.

Do not base your choice of photographers on price alone. You shouldn’t be looking for the cheapest photographer but you shouldn’t have to take out a second mortgage on your home either. Evaluate just what you will be getting for your money, something you are comfortable with. I feel very strongly that my quality & prices are an outstanding value.

Digital photography can give you and your senior images that were impossible or monetarily out of reach just a few years ago. If you can imagine it, I can do it.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SENIOR'S SESSION STAND OUT!

Bring accessories (No Charge) such as sunglasses, coats, leather jackets, hats, sports stuff (uniforms, balls, bats, trophies, etc.), musical instruments, collections, posters and artwork, stuffed animals, pets (if housebroken; check with the studio ahead of time, cats should be in a carrier), a car, a friend, your phone, or anything that says ...this is me!

Also, you may bring examples of your favorite portraits of your friends, or cut them out of your favorite magazines. Make suggestions, it's all good to add to the variety we want to provide.
